Washing Away

Moving Water...
Rush over stones, Roar in the silence, Cascade.
Flow, ripple, stay still,
Flow, Flow. . .
disapear.

Incarnadine

It is hot and humid.

This morning I watched two cardinals sitting on the fence outside my window. The red brillance of the male softened by the female's subdued salmon flashed against the green hedge.

Then they were still. The male touched his beak against the beak of the female and he flew off. Was he kissing her good bye?

Within moments the male flew back and they sat together again. And,again the male touhed his beak to the beak of the female.

This happened a few more times in the same way. Flying off, coming back, touching her beak. Was he feeding her or was this affection between them? Clearly, he was the giver and she the receiver....And, she gave by receiving.

My father used to watch birds. At the time, I thought it odd.

Dust and Grit

Suddenly, the wind blew hard. The tops of the trees swayed, shadows shrouded the sky. Three crows flew overhead.

The dusty road filled my mouth making it hard to swallow. Dirt and grit covered my face....The sun moved down into the dark arms of the mountain.

A bird sang. . . And the icy twilight moon appeared in the sky. The drum of a woodpecker punctuated the ending of the day.

And, it is still a long way home.

Even though I cannot see them.

Some Hills Are Steep

One thing I learned: Walking up a high hill is not like walking on the flatlands. You have to want to move forward and be willing to put forth the effort and the energy to make the climb.
